Siddharth Shanghvi Biography

Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi, shortly called Siddharth Shanghvi is a very popular English writer of modern times. His debut novel The Last Song of Dusk (2004) won him numerous awards and nominations, and placed his name among the most promising writers of present generation in English literature across the world. He won the most prestigious Betty Trask Award (UK) award for his debut work, and also Premio Grinzane Cavour (Italy). This international bestseller was translated into 16 languages, and was also nominated for the IMPAC Literary Prize (Ireland). His novel The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay (2009) a bestseller was short-listed for the Man Asian Literary Prize 2008.

He was born in Mumbai on 25 August 1977. Juhu is his birthplace. He was born into a business family. He completed his Master’s degree in International Journalism at the University of Westminster, London, and also specialized in Photography in 1999. He wrote his first book "The Last Song of Dusk," aged only 22. But he didn’t publish the book as the publisher suggested some changes. He later moved to North California and took Master’s in mass communication from San Jose State University. The book was finally published in 2004, and earned him praises from all corners across the globe. The book later turned to be an international bestseller and won him many prizes.

Shanghvi has been compared to Salman Rushdie and Vikram Seth in his writing styles. His essay, Hello, Darling, was published in 2008 anthology, AIDS Sutra: Untold Stories from India. His second book, The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay (2009) which was inspired from the infamous Jessica Lall murder case received only mixed reviews and he announced his retirement from writing. Later he turned to his second passion - photography.
