Shyam Pathak Biography

Shyam Pathak is a popular television actor best known for the comic character, Popatlal Pandey – an aging bachelor and crime reporter in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, the longest running Indian sitcom aired on SAB TV. The show has now completed 500 episodes. He is paired with actress Khushboo Tawde in the show and their screen marriage was well-celebrated by its fans. Though he has huge fan crowd for the popular character of the serial, the actor certifies that he is poles apart from his screen role. He is an accountant by profession, an introvert and a family man just opposite to the role he plays in the sitcom.    

He is the cousin of popular comedy actor of Bollywood, Vinay Pathak. He is a graduate from prestigious National School of Drama, New Delhi and is married to his classmate Reshami. The couple has one daughter and one son. He belongs to a simple middle class Gujarati family. He completed chartered accountancy course of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Yet acting was his real call and for the same reason he joined NSD to take formal training in acting. It was during this time when he met his future wife, Reshami.

His character in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is so popular that many people were concerned about his marriage and used to send him marriage proposals, particularly old ladies who watch the show. Sukh By Chance and Jasuben Jayantilaal Joshi Ki Joint Family are his other shows. He played the character of Dheeraj Mehta in Sukh by chance and Rajendra Jayantilal Joshi in the other.
