Shvetha Jaishankar Biography

Shvetha Jaishankar is an Indian model and beauty pageant titleholder from Chennai. She is also a writer, entrepreneur and a trained classical dancer. She won the title at the Femina Miss India International 1998 and represented India at Miss International 1998 held in Tokyo, where she finished as second runner-up. In 2016 she published the book, Gorgeous: Eat Well Look Great. Shvetha is also founder of ‘A lot of dreams’, an NGO that provides education to girls belonging to poor families. She was formerly married to ace tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi.

Shvetha Jaishankar was born in Chennai on 11 December 1978. Both her parents are into medical field. Her mother is a doctor while her father is a businessman, in the clinical trials industry. Her childhood and younger days were spent in Chennai, where she completed her education. She later pursued her MBA in 2004 from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. After her marriage with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2002, she co-founded sports and talent management company, Globosport. The couple parted in ways in 2009, and she married Raghu Kailas the following year. Bhupathi married Miss Universe 2000 and Bollywood actress Lara Dutta in 2011. From her second marriage with Raghu, she has two daughters.

Her modelling journey began at the age of 17, when she was discovered by fashion guru Prasad Bidapa. She went on to become one of the leading ramp models of the country and has worked with Ritu Kumar, Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra. She won the Femina Miss India International 1998, and finished as second runner-up at Miss International 1998. She appeared in the TV ads of Dabur Vatika shampoo, Nestle Munch, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, Asian Paints etc, and has also presented a few shows on TV.
