Shubman Gill hails from Punjab. He was born on 8 September 1999 in Fazilka, Punjab. Only 19 years old, Gill’s attacking batting style has been compared to the likes of Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Alastair Cook in the recent times. His match-winning 102 not out in the semi-final against Pakistan U-19 in 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup played a magnificent role in cementing his career. This memorable innings was praised by all senior players of Indian cricket like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. He served as the vice-captain of 2018 ICC U-19 World Cup and also scored 418 runs at an average of 104.50, thus becoming the player of the tournament. He usually bats at position three.

He was born into an agricultural family. His father always wanted him to become a cricketer, because years ago he dreamed the same, but couldn’t make it. He would assist Shubman in practices on their agricultural fields, and convinced by his talents, he along with the family moved to Mohali so that young Shubman gets good practice to pursue a career in the field of cricket. Shubman started playing cricket at the age of three, at a time when kids play with toys.

As a team member of U-16 for Punjab, he hit an unbeaten double-century in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. In 2014, he scored 351 runs in Punjab's Inter-District U-16 tournament. He made his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017. There was no turning back after that. He also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 IPL season.
