Shraddha Kapoor Biography
Shraddha Kapoor is one of the top and successful actresses of Bollywood at present. She is also a playback singer. In 2013, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor took the nation by storm by the Bollywood musical – Aashique 2, where their sizzling chemistry and romantic tracks are still loved by millions. Though she has acted in two Bollywood movies earlier, this single movie placed her among the Bollywood divas of the top slot. Her acting talents and looks have been often compared to Bollywood diva, Madhuri Dixit which itself is a great compliment. She is the daughter of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor – ‘The bad man of Bollywood’.
Though she is specific about her film roles and has appeared in only a few movies in the past 6 years, she is one of the hot favourites of filmmakers. Ek Villain, ABCD-2 and Haider are her box office hits after Aashique 2. OK Jaanu, Baaghi: Rebels in Love and Rock On 2 are her upcoming releases. She is being paired with Aditya Roy Kapur for the upcoming flick – OK Jaanu, an official remake of Tamil Blockbuster – OK Kanmani, directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie is produced by Karan Johar.
She was born into a filmy family in Mumbai in 3 March 1989. Her family is full of actors. Her father Shakti Kapoor has fully dominated the list of villains of Bollywood in the 1980s and 1990s. Two aunts Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure are Bollywood actresses, and her elder brother Siddhanth Kapoor has also forayed into films. She was brought up as a Maharashtrian girl, though her father Kapoor is of Punjabi descent. She played soccer and handball during her academics and studied at Boston University. However she discontinued her studies to join Bollywood.
She debut Bollywood with 2010 film Teen Patti, where she starred aside legendary actor Amitabh Bachan. However the film got negative reviews and was a box office failure. Her performance too went unnoticed. She achieved success through the small budget film - Luv Ka The End in 2011. She played lead role opposite Taaha Shah in this movie and received Stardust Awards for Best Actress. But it was her third release - Aashique 2, released two years later gave her the big break to Bollywood. She excelled as Aarohi, an aspiring singer in this movie and won many nominations including Filmfare. This single film pushed her to the slot of top actresses, and her acting talents were well praised by critics. She received a nomination for best actress at Filmfare. She also played a cameo role in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein the same year.
Since then she has tasted only success from Bollywood – with three hits in a row; Ek Villain, ABCD-2 and Haider. She has also rendered her voice for a few film songs, for all these three movies, Galliyan (Unplugged), Do Jahaan and Bezubaan Phir Se respectively. She was also seen doing an iten number, "Dance Basanti" for 2014 movie, Ungli. She endorses many products and is also associated with charity activities. In 2015, she launched her own line of clothing for women, named Imara, in association with Amazon.com
