Shiv Kapoor Biography

Shiv Kapur is an Indian Golfer born on February 12, 1982 in New Delhi. His father is a stock broker by profession and wanted his son to join Harvard University but Shiv Kapur preffered Purdue University, as he found it better for his golfing interest. Shiv was a regular at Delhi Golf Club where he learned the finer points of the game of golf. 

His career saw a rise at the Malaysian Amateur Open and Indian amateur golf circuit in the year 2000 after he joined Purdue University, Indianapolis, United States for pursuing his higher studies and played in the U.S. amateur circuit. Shiv Kapur won a gold in the Busan Asian Games 2002, only the the second Indian to claim the honor, after Laxman Singh, who had won the gold at the Delhi Asiad in 1982.

Shiv Kapur first appeared as a professional player the year 2004 and later in 2005 he won the Volvo Masters of Asia in Bangkok. Shiv Kapur ended close in several games including defeating compatriot and 2004 champion Jyoti Randhawa, which he won with 20-under-par 268. In the in 2006, Shiv Kapur did even better and qualified for his first Major tournament at the British Open, but he did not qualify in the halfway cut at Royal Liverpool.

However the year went well for Kapur with fifth place finish at the Johnnie Walker classic on home soil. Later in the year 2006, Shiv finished as top 20 on as many as six times also earned his maximum at the Barclays Singapore Open, a check worth US $123,000 where he finished fifth. 

The 2006 season went well and Shiv had no problem earning his card for European Tour for 2007 as he finished 116th on the Merit. The year 2007 also started well for Kapur as he finished in the second position (tied) in the second Asian Tour title in the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open. However his best effort brought him at 10th spot while playing against Mikko Ilonen. That particular performance brought him to top 10 at the Barclays Singapore Open besides two other top 20 spots. But that was the end of his success story as he struggled with a back pain. He was last seen in the Open Championship 2013 and U.S. Open 2014.
