Shimla Muthu Chozhan Biography

Shimla Muthu Chozhan is a political novice from Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu who suddenly came to spotlight after she entered state politics. She is the DMK candidate from R K Nagar constituency in north Chennai for the state assembly elections, where she is to take on AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa. It’s quite interesting that DMK, VCK and AIADMK parties have fielded female candidates for 2016 state assembly elections, and the polls are to be held on 16th May, 2016. Thol. Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Party fields a strong educationalist and activist at the same constituency - Vasanthi Devi, while M.N. Raja, son-in-law of former AIADMK minister Aranganayakam is the BJP candidate.

She was born in Nagercoil, Kanya Kumari district. Her father, Alfred Benhur, is an automobile dealer while her mother Veerangani is a homemaker. Her schooling and higher studies were done at Chennai. She has been living in R K Nagar for last 10 years, the constituency from which she is contesting state assembly elections for the first time. Though she is fielded against the most powerful political figure of Tamil Nadu, she is quite confident that she will win the elections. She sites that she is quite familiar about the problems faced by people of R K Nagar as she is living there for a long time. As a young politician she believes that she knows the pulse of the youth.

She belongs to a political family. Her mother-in-law Sarguna Pandian is a veteran politician associated with DMK party and a former minister of Tamil Nadu too. She is a lawyer by profession. She was married to the political family in 2009. Her grandfather was a filmmaker who produced and directed the movie Punitha Anthoniar. Shimla Muthu Chozhan has catapulted to fame since she was chosen as DMK’s candidate at R K Nagar constituency.
