Shilpa Gupta Biography 
Shilpa Gupta is an Indian artist based in Mumbai. She is best known for her contemporary style of work. She received BFA in sculpture from the Sir J. J. School of Fine Arts in 1997 and after that she has been associated with the art field for the past two decades or so. Gupta uses mediums that range from manipulated found objects to video, interactive computer-based installation, and performance, and is known for her unique working style and end results. This artist in deeply interested in human perception on different objects and most of her works are based on this.
Shilpa Gupta was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra in the year 1976. As she was inclined towards art and colours, she studied at the prestigious Sir J. J. School of Fine Arts to pursue a career in this field. She is interested in human perception and how different media objects are perceived in day-to-day life. Untitled (1995-96) was her early work which she did during her academic years. Untitled (1999) was her second project for which she chose another theme. Blessed Bandwidth (2001) was her third project. Untitled (Wives of the Disappeared), 2006 – followed the same series.
Blame (2001), There is No Border Here (2005), 100 Hand drawn maps of India, Someone Else- 100 Books written anonymously or under pseudonyms (2011) to Altered Inheritances (2012-14) etc are some of her works later. Since 2009 she has done solo exhibitions in India and other parts of the world. Her most recent solo exhibition was held in Kiosk in Ghent in the year 2017. ‘My East is Your West’ is one among her solo projects. She has also participated in several international art exhibitions over the years.
