Shiamak Davar Biography

Shiamak Davar is a well established choreographer of Bollywood. He has sung for a few movies and pop albums as well. The song, ‘Jaane kis ne/Uski surat hai meri aakhom mein’ (1997) is one such successful pop song, where Shiamak devar has sung and made an appearance too.  He was also featured in the promotion song of the comedy movie – Jhoot bole kauwa kate’ (1998). He is widely regarded as first Indian to bring Contemporary Jazz and western forms of dances to Bollywood.

Shiamak Davar started his film journey with mega blockbuster movie based on music and dance – Dil to pagal hai. It was for the first and last time when three great actors of Hindi cinema – SRK, Madhuri Dixit and Karishma Kapoor shared the same screen. All the songs were lovely choreographed by Shaimak Davar and he won National awards for best choreographer (1997). Songs like – Le gayi le gayi, Dance of envy and Koi ladki hai are still regarded as best compositions of Shiamak Davar. He lovely choreographed the beats when Madhuri Dixit and Karishma Kapoor danced together to the ‘Dance of envy’.

Taal, Kisna, Bunty Aur Babli, Dhoom 2, I See You, Taare Zameen Par, Yuvvraaj, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Aladdin are the best contributions of Shiamak Devar as a choreographer. A few most popular of them include – Kahi aag lage and Ishq bina of Taal, Dhoom again and Crazy kiya re of Dhoom 2 and Dance pe chance of Rab ne bana de Jodi. He has won MTV Style Awards 2007 for 'Most Stylish Song in a Film', for the song 'Dhoom Again', beautifully danced by none other than Hritik Roshan.

He was the Director of Choreography for the Commonwealth Games Melbourne and Commonwealth Games, New Delhi – 2010. When stage shows are organized by leading film magazines and television channels to give awards to film fraternities Shiamak Davar is one particular choreographer who frequently gives steps to actors for their dance performances. He owns Shiamak Davar Dance Company from which actors like Shahid Kapoor, Darsheel Safary, Ruslan Mumtaz and Shubh have learnt dancing steps.

Middlesex University has honoured him with doctorate for his contributions to entertaining India and whole world. His recent pop album, Shabop was a hit. Leading singers like Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan and Shweta Pandit have sung for it. It included remixed versions of DJ Aqueel too.
