Sherrey Biography

Sherrey is a National award winning film director associated with Malayalam film industry. He is best known for his directorial venture, Adimadhyantham which won a special reference in the 59th National Film Awards. It was his first film as a full-fledged filmmaker. When most of Malayalam films were neglected Adimadhyantham was the only Malayalam film selected to compete in the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala. He has directed several short films before he turned a feature film director. He is also a screenwriter, who scripts his films.

Sherrey was born in Kannur in 1972 or 1973. He was a young cable operator from Thaliparamba, Kannur district, who forayed into films. He started off with short films. He made five short films - ‘The Return,' ‘Kadaltheerathu,' ‘The Last Leaf,' ‘Suryakanthi,' and ‘Geeta Govindam', before he directed Adimadhyantham starring Mamukoya and Indrans.  He is a recipient of State film awards for the best short film. His short film, ‘The Last Leaf,' was screened at the ALA short film festival in Kozhikode.

Before his film Adimadhyantham became the only Malayalam film to be chosen for International Film Festival of Kerala, Sherrey has never missed the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in Thiruvananthapuram for last 10 years. He was a cable operator when he regularly visited IFFK for one decade. But at that time he hardly imagined that his film would be screened in the same festival some day, and that too in the international competition section. In fact he was shocked when he got a call from the Chalachitra Academy informing that his film has been selected for the competition section of the IFFK. It was one of the four Indian films in the competition section.
