Sheetal Mallar Biography

Sheetal Mallar is an Indian supermodel who dominated the era of 1990’s. She won the Femina Look of the Year and Elite Look of the Year in 1994 and her top opponent was another supermodel, Madhu Sapre who was the leading name in Indian fashion industry during early 1990’s. She is the face of many leading beauty products including Maybelline cosmetics. She was to debut big screen opposite John Abraham in Madras Café, which was titled Jafna then. But things didn’t happen and the role was later played by another newcomer Rashi Khanna. Apart from modelling, she is passionate in photography though not at all too much excited with movies.

She was born in Mumbai on 23 April 1974. Her parents originally hail from Padubidri, Karnataka. Her father is a lawyer. She was brought up in Mumbai where she completed her schooling. Though she pursued graduation at Sydenham College, she discontinued her studies to pursue a career in modelling. She is the discovery of one of the leading fashion photographers, Gautam Rajadhyaksha. When her friend took her to the studio of this fashion photographer, she was only 16. Her first shoot was for Danabhai Jewellers, in which she appeared as a young innocent bride. She was one of the top 12 finalists in the Elite supermodel contest held in 1994 and also won the Femina Look of the Year the same year, beating Madhu Sapre.

She has endorsed many leading brands throughout her modelling career and has been one of the top supermodels during 1990’s. She was married to Italian tennis player, Mose Navarra, though it didn’t last for more than 3 years. Professionally, Mallar has been in a transition of sorts and has also tried to gather experience behind camera. She recently did a project for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week where she shot a series of backstage photographs.
