Sheela Sharma (foot Artist) Biography

Sheela Sharma is a Lucknow based amputated artist popularly known as the 'foot and mouth painting' artist. She lost both her hands and three fingers of her left foot in a train accident at the age of two. She also lost her mother and brother in this accident. Yet now Sharma is a successful lady who paints her life canvas with colourful colours and definitely an inspiring lady to many. She uses her right foot to paint different colours of life. She loves to paint nature and women and also teaches a lot of children to paint and sketch. She has conducted exhibitions at Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Lucknow.

She was born in Gorakhpur in 1972. It happened in the year 1976 when four year old Sheela became a victim of a train accident. Became a physically handicapped girl who lost her mother and younger brother in the accident she had to live in an orphanage in Delhi, where she learnt to write using right leg and completed her intermediate studies. While staying at Delhi she came across an artist who used to paint sans hands, which stayed in her mind. She didn’t get any help from government and this courageous girl didn’t loss the battle. She completed Fine Arts degree from Lucknow. Later she proved her potential as a good painter, painting using her right leg. In 2005 she got married to Sudeep and now she is a successful woman.

While at school she started drawing and painting using her feet, and received appreciation from her friends and teachers. She was even awarded for her talent in school, which prompted young Sheela to do better. When she started painting on canvas, though she faced criticisms, she took them positively and made improvements over the years. She fought against all odds and completed her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Lucknow University. With exposure to big cities, she developed a wider knowledge about her surroundings and has conducted exhibitions in all leading cities of the country.
