Shatrughan Sinha Biography

Shatrughan Sinha is an Indian film actor who turned a politician later on. He served as the member of Rajya Sabha two times and also served as the Union Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare from 2003 January to 2004 May and as the Minister of Shipping in 2004 August.

 

He was born on 9th December 1945 in Patna in Bihar. He studied at Patna Science College. Then he continued his education at the Film and Television Institute of India at Pune. To start his career in the film industry he moved to Bombay. He started his film career in the year 1969.

 

He played the role of a Pakistani military officer in his debut film Prem Pujari. Then he acted in a minor role in the film Sajan in 1969. This film was released earlier than his first film Prem Pujari. He acted in the film Mere Apne by Gulzar in 1971.

 

Some of the films that he has acted include Rakta Charita, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, Kasba, Hum Se Na Takrana, Aakhri Baazi, Santosh, Loha, Saya, Antarjali Jatra, Aag Hi Aag, Qayamat, Chor Police, Kalka, Kranti, Shaan, Dostana, Chambal Ki Kasam, Jaani Dushman, Muqabla, Vishwanath, Amar Shakti, Bhookh, Do Thug, Dost, Badla, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Do Yaar, Parwana, Paras, etc.

 

He married Poonam Sinha and has three children, Sonakshi Sinha, Luv Sinha and Kush Sinha. He took part in the Great Indian Laughter Challenge show in 2008 as a judge on STAR One TV. On 3rd October 2009 he appeared in the show Dus Ka Dum season 2 on the Sony Entertainment Television Asia.

 

In the film Rakta Charitra he appeared in the role of Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Patna Sahib Constituency defeating Shekhar Suman. He joined the cabinet of 13th Lok Sabha as the minister of Health and Family Welfare. He serves as the member of the BJP at present.

 

He was nominated for the Filmfare award four times for the films Paras, Dost, Kaala Pathar and Dostana. He received the Bengal Film Journalist Association Award for Best Supporting actor in 1973, Pride of Film Industry at the Stardust Awards in 2003, Stardust Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2011, etc.
