Shashanka Ghosh Biography

Shashanka Ghosh is a Bollywood director and screenwriter who directed the movies - Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II (2003) and Quick Gun Murugan (2009). Khoobsurat is his upcoming project, which stars Sonam Kapoor, Fawad Khan and Aamir Raza Hussain in pivot roles. Ghosh was creative head of the music channel V for a while. Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II is the first experimental movie in Indian cinema, whose sequel was first made before its first part. Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part I is yet to be made.

 

Hailing from Delhi, Ghosh wanted to be a chartered accountant as a youngster. But later he reached marketing field. Later as per his friend’s advice he tried his luck in advertising and had more than one decade experience in television as well as ad field as a creative head. He also worked as a copywriter for the next five years. He then moved to Hong Kong on a job offer at the age of 30. But he quit the job after working 3 or 4 months. Later he worked on some scripts and approached MTV. He worked with promos for the television channel. His work was appreciated internationally. When Channel V was launched in India, he became a part of it.

 

A black comedy - Waise Bhi Hota Hai Part II, featuring Arshad Warsi, Prashant Narayanan and Sandhya Mridul was his debut movie, released in 2003. The movie was made on a small budget of 2.5 crore and emerged as a critical success. The film was originally titled - Manohar Kahaniya. Quick Gun Murugun was his second movie, a comedy masala released in 2009. It is a spoof on Indian western movies and style of movie making which includes songs, dances and melodrama. The character was inspired from Om Shanti Om.
