Sharman Joshi Biography

Audience remembers Sharman Joshi most for his wonderful performance in 3 idiots – a movie that has already made history in box office. Sharman Joshi is a successful actor of Bollywood who has given good performances in leading as well as supporting actor role. As leading actor, Ferrari ki Sawari, Xcuse me and Style are successful movies. In the comic movie Style (2001), he was a co-actor alone with Sahil Khan and it was his debut movie as leading actor too. Xcuse me (2003) was the sequel of hit movie Style and was a hit at box office. The song, ‘Excuse me, Kya re’ was a surprise hit when it got released and the same wordings were used for coining its sequel in 2003. As a supporting actor, his memorable roles include Rang de basanthi, 3 Idiots, Life in a metro and Golmaal. All these movies were huge success at box office. Yet people loved him most for his role as an innocent boy and friend of Aamir Khan in the movie ‘3 Idiots’.

 

Joshi belongs to a Gujarati art family. His family including his father and aunts were active in theaters. His sister has acted in TV soaps and has married TV actor Rohit Roy. Joshi’s wife Prerna Chopra is the daughter of villain of yesterdays, Prem Chopra. He has also started his acting career through Gujarati plays. As an actor his debut movie was National award winning movie of Shabana Azmi – Godmother in 1999. He did the role of Karshan, a less significant role.

 

As a hero, he got a big break through Style in 2001. Later he retained his success through movies like Xcuse me and Shaadi no.1. All the three movies belong to comedy. In Golmaal too, he played comic role. In 3 idiots, he played his role well both as a comic actor as well as serious son who loves his family a lot. His other movies include Ferrari ki sawari, Dhol, Allay ke bande, Raqeeb, Kahan ho tum, Sorry bhai, Toh baat pakki, 3 bachelors and Hello. He has been nominated twice in Filmfare awards for the movies Golmaal and 3 Idiots. He won best supporting actor award at IIFA for 3 Idiots.
