Sharda Sinha Biography

Sharda Sinha is a folk singer from Bihar. She is a recipient of Padma Sri by Government of India, in honour of her contributions to the world of Indian traditional folk music. She has also rendered her voice for a few Bollywood songs as well. Her most popular Bollywood song is "Kahe Toh Se Sajna" from the musical, Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) penned by Dev Kohli. In the recent times, she sang the songs - "Kaun Si Nagariya" from Chaarfutiya Chhokare (2014) and "Taar Bijli" of Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 (2012). Sinha sings in Hindi, Maithili, Bhojpuri and Magahi languages.

 

Sharda hails from Bihar. Sharda is active in the world of music since 1980. She is one of the most popular singers belonging to Maithili dialect. She is a Music Professor from Samastipur Bihar. Some of her most popular songs include - Jagdamba Ghar me Diayara, Sulam More, Jay Jay Bhairavi, Aragh ke Ber, Albela Raghuwar Ayo Ji, Basaha Charahal, Shubh Shubh ke Laganwan, Mai Mein Chi Bidhi, Sama Khele Geilai, Mohi Lelkhin Sajni Mor Manwa, Bada Ajgut and A Mai Ahi Bidhi Chhal. Apart from Padma Shri awards, she is also a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

 

She regularly performs in concerts and music festivals since 1980s and she has a huge fan following crowd. She regularly performs during Durga Puja festivities. She performed when the Prime Minister of Mauritius Navin Ramgoolam came to Bihar. She also performed in Bihar Utsav held at Pragati maidan in Delhi, 2010. When Prayag Sangeet Samiti organised Basant Mahotsava at Prayag, Sinha presented numerous songs based on the theme of spring season.
