Shantilal Mukherjee Biography

Shantilal Mukherjee is a noted actor associated with Bengali cinema and theatre. He was born in Sarsuna of South Kolkata. Shantilal Mukherjee sang for Haranath Chakraborty's movie "Chhayamoy". This talented actor had always stayed away from microphone till then. Though he has been associated with theatre for many years, he is active in film scene only recently. Chotushkone (2014), The Royal Bengal Tiger (2014), Kangal Malsat (2013), Kanamachi (2013), Chhayamoy (2013), Kidnapper (2013), Le Halwa Le (2012), Macho Mustanaa (2012) and Kahaani (2012) are some of his recent releases.

He was born in Kolkata. He lost his father at a young age. He completed schooling from New Alipore Multipurpose High School and graduated from Asutosh College. Since younger days, theatre and acting were his passions. Ramaprasad Banik was his mentor and guru in the field of acting. Throughout his career as a stage artiste, he had shied away from singing. Even his guru was not able to make him sing for stage plays. However in 2012 he made his debut as a singer too. "Chhayamoy" was the movie. He was well appreciated by its composer too. He currently lives in his residence at Kolkata with his wife, children and mother. His son Ritabrata is a child actor who has appeared in a few TV serials. Director Rashmi Bandopahdyay is his cousin.

It was not an easy journey for Shantilal to become a successful actor. After losing his father at a very young age, he had to face many hardships at a younger age. He worked with a roadside tea staller to earn a few pennies during his childhood. Later he worked in a construction company. Since young he loved to watch movies and plays. His experience in theater helped him to bag a role in an audition held at Girish Mancha and that’s how he got into movies.
