Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi Biography 
Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi was an Indian politician and a member of the royal family - who ruled the estate of Ramnad. Associated with Justice Party first he later joined Indian National Congress. A prominent politician, he has served as MLA from 1951 to 1967 and served as cabinet minister twice. He won as Indian National Congress candidate from Ramanathapuram constituency in 1952 and 1962 elections and Indian National Congress candidate from Ramanathapuram constituency in 1952 and 1962 elections. His daughter Latha Sethupathy has been a leading co-star of MCR in the 1970s and his son, Rajkumar Sethupathy has worked in many south Indian movies as an actor, now turned a successful producer.
He was also known as Naganatha Sethupathi, born into the royal family of Ramnad. His father Raja Rajeswara Sethupathi was the ruler of a princely state Ramnad. The prince had a great passion of sports and horses and he completed English education and Law studies. H was a fine cricketer who played First class cricket matches for Tamil Nadu. Following his father’s death in 1929, he succeeded the throne at a time when there were a lot of land disputes. When Indian republic came into existence, he lost his power. However he continued his journey as a politician associated with Justice Party and later Congress.
A great lover of horses, he owned a stable in Kolkata which had 50 horses. He was interested in horse riding also. He also owned a big garage of cars in Madras, including the Rolls Royces and a Bentley bought from the Maharaja of Mysore in the late 1950s. As a cabinet minister, he was a member of C. Rajagopalachari and K. Kamaraj's cabinet. He died on March 4, 1967 while active in political career.
