Shanmugasundaram Biography 
Shanmugasundaram was born in Chennai to a family of business people. He was 73 and is survived by his wife and two sons. He was one of the close friends of Kavignar Kannadasan. His entry into the film industry was purely an accident. During his college days, he had to accompany with another actor for a drama performance. One of the junior artists did not perform well in the drama. So he got the chance to act in his place was brought into the field automatically. He then moved on to work in Tamil movies. His notable role is his debut in Sivaji Ganesan's 1963 classic Ratha Thilagam and has acted in many movies till date, most of them as a villager. He is remembered for the dialogues "Andha Aatha Magamayi ungaluku oru kuraiyum varaama paarthupaa & Bowling eh fielding eh". His character in the serial like Annamalai, Selvi and its sequel, Arasi are some of his work with Raadhika Sarathkumar, Venkat Prabhu. He has worked with the renowned Indian film maker Son of Gangai Amaren who is a close relative of Shanmuga Sundaram.
Shanmugasundaram had performed a wide range of roles. He will always be remembered for playing Salliya Chakravarthy in the Sevaliyar Sivaji Ganesan starrer Karnan. In the film, Salliya Chakravarthy is as skilled as Lord Krishna in driving the chariot. Shanmugasundaram was only 19 when he played the role. The actor gave us some memorable peformances in movies like Karagattakaran, Kizhakku Vaasal, Chennai 28, Goa amongst others. He acted as Actress Kanaga's father in Karagatakaran movie. The last movie he appeared before his demise was STR-starrer Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan.
