Shamita Shetty is a Bollywood actress. She is the younger sister of actress Shilpa Shetty. Her noted movies are Mohabbatein, Zeher and Fareb and her items songs of Mere yaar ki shaadi hai (Shara ra shara ra) and Saathiya (Chori pe chori) are immensely popular. She performs at various award ceremonies and television shows.

Shamita Shetty was born in a traditional family in Mangalore as the younger daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty. She did her schooling at St. Anthony Girls' High School in Chembur. Her college study was completed at Podar College in Matunga. Her elder sister Shilpa was already a successful actress and noted celebrity of film fraternity. So, her launch to movies was easy. She debut Bollywood in the year 2000 along with a set of new comers like Uday Chopra, Kim Sharma and Preeti Jhangiani. Jimmy Shergill and Jugal Hansraj also worked as supporting actors where Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role. Shamita was paired opposite the leading boy of the group, Uday Chopra. The movie was the second venture of Aditya Chopra after DDLJ and was well received too.

Shamita Shetty, along with the newcomers, Kim Sharma and Preeti Jhangiani won multiple nominations for best newcomers. It was exactly the same year when a new set of actors – Junior B to Kareena Kapoor debut the silver screen. Yet Shamita managed to win IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female the same year defeating Kareena. Though Mohabbatein was well received she had to wait a couple of years for her next opportunity. It happened through the item songs - Mere yaar ki shaadi hai (Shara ra shara ra) and Saathiya (Chori pe chori), both released in the same year 2002, one after the other. Asha Bhosle’s voice was used for both these songs. In Sharara, she danced along with her hero of her debut movie. Sharara song was such a huge hit that it prompted the director of Saathiya to reshoot the item song – Chori chori that was already done by a model. It proved successful. Though the song was not as great as other songs, Shamita’s dance steps promoted the movie a lot.

Up to date, her best performance is Zehar, opposite Emraan Hashmi is regarded as the best. She worked with her sister in the movie Fareb also. She has also appeared in a few south Indian movies.
