Shaji Chen Biography

Shaji Chen is a south Indian author who has published books in Tamil and Malayalam. He has also acted in a few movies in both these languages, including a few cameo roles. He has also worked in music industry, and is the Trustee in South India for the Salil Chowdhury Foundation of Music. Most of his books are related to music as well. He published one Malayalam book based on music titled, Paattalla Sangeetham. All his published 5 Tamil works are related to music and they are Sollil Adangaatha Isai, Isaiyin Thanimai, Isaiyin Oliyil, Isai Thirai Vaazhkai and Shaji Isai Katturaikal Muzhuththokuppu. He also writes movie related write-ups and autobiographical articles, published in different film magazines.

The writer hails from Kattappana, Kerala. He predominantly writes in Tamil language. A writer on music books, he also writes columns related to films and music. His columns appear in The Hindu, The Hindu Tamil, Ananda Vikatan, Times of India, India Today, Mangalam daily, Deepika Daily etc. He also writes in Malayalam and English languages. His English articles in the series Music Beyond Words have been translated to Tamil by Jeyamohan. It was published in Urirmmai Tamil magazine titled Sollil Adangaatha Isai. Tamil writer S. Ramakrishnan too has translated many of his columns and articles to Tamil.

Shaji’s earlier works were written in English, and later he started writing in Tamil. Paattinappuram is a very popular column on film music written by Shaji in Malayalam weekly Chandrika. Paattalla Sangeetham is his first book published in his mother tongue, Malayalam. Other works are in Tamil and English languages. He also writes regularly for Bhashaposhini and many leading Malayalam magazines.
