Shahabuddin Rathod Biography

Shahabuddin Rathod is a well-known scholar and writer from the state of Gujarat. He is also a humorist, and a retired teacher too. Known for his humour works, he has authored many books related to the subject, and they include - Lakh Rupiayani Vaat, Dukhi Thavani Kala, Darpan Juth Na Bole, Mare Kya Lakhavu Hatu?, Hasata-Hasavata, Anmol Atithya, Sajjan Mitrona Sangathe, Show Must Go On, Devu To Marad Kare, Hasyano Varghodo and Maro Gadhedo Dekhay Chhe? He has edited several books and released several CDs and cassettes too. Popular TV series, Papad Pol - Shahbuddin Rathod ki Rangeen Duniya aired on SAB TV is based on the story of the imaginary world of characters created by the renowned writer.

Shahabuddin Rathod was born on 9 December 1937 at Thangadh in British India. His hometown now belongs to Surendranagar district, Gujarat. After studies, he started his professional career as a teacher in 1958. In 1971 he became school principal, a position he held till his retirement in 1996. Despite being a Muslim, he had good knowledge of Sanskrit language and Hinduism too. He had a deep understanding on different religious faiths across the world. Rathod gained recognition through his comic works, free of vulgarity and hence gained popularity among the masses.

He travels extensively across the globe with his performances with aim to bring smiles on their faces. He entertains others with his stories and funny anecdotes in his live shows apart from CDs and cassettes. He has also created many imaginary characters for this purpose, which he efficiently uses for such performances. His work, Papad Pol is based on these imaginary characters, very simple but realistic characters belonging to middle class.
