Shah Faesal Biography 
Shah Faesal is the first native from Kashmir to top Indian Civil Services Examination. He is also the first candidate from Kashmir to get selected for the prestigious Indian Administrative Service. Faesal, born in 1983, topped UPSC Civil Service exam in the year 2010 at the age of only 27. He chose Urdu as his optional subject which is very rarely chosen by candidates. Very soon he turned to a youth icon among Kashmiris. Shah’s father was killed by terrorists earlier. Shan used to write columns for many newspapers before he joined Administrative service.
He was born in 1983 in Lolab Valley, Jammu and Kashmir. Faesal was born in remote village Sogam. Both his parents were government school teachers and his father was killed by terrorists. Shah is greatly influenced by his father whom he considers as his role model. He lost his father in 2002 when he was preparing pre-medical exams. Shah is a physician who completed MBBS from SKIMS Medical College as university topper. Later his success in IAS exams is nothing short of a fairy tale and it’s through his hard work and dedication that he broke the myth that Kashmirians can’t do well at Administrative exams.
As a great admirer and promoter of Urdu language, he chose Urdu as the optional language for his administrative service exams. He completed training at LBSNAA and as a youth icon of Kashmirians he initiated many events for youth and is quite active at public platform. He has also influenced numerous youngsters of Kashmir to take up Civil service exams. He currently serves as Deputy Commissioner at Bandipora District of Kashmir Valley.
