Shabina Khan (choreographer) Biography

Shabina Khan is an established choreographer associated with Bollywood. She shot to fame after doing the title track of Bollywood Blockbuster of 2015 - Prem Ratan Dhan Payo where she prepared the dance steps for the lead pair, Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor. The song went viral over the net and Shabina became a star overnight. Other noted works include – her debut work, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, followed by Darna Mana Hai, Janasheen, Naach, Speed, My Friend Ganesha 3, Kajraare, Rakta Charitra etc. Though she spent more than a decade in the industry as an independent choreographer, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo gave her the big break to her professional career.

A native of Mumbai, Mohammed Shoukat Khan and Rafiqa Banu are her parents. She entered film industry in the year 1994, starting off working under many ace choreographers. She began her career by assisting the choreographer Ganesh Hegde for the film Khamoshi: The Musical. Since 1996 she assisted Ganesh Acharya for next 5 years, before she moved to Prabhudeva’s team in 2001. In between she also assisted Saroj Khan for 1998 film Soldier. She spent 9 years in the industry as an assistant choreographer before she got the first break in 2003.

She received her big break as an independent choreographer through the film, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, which gave much preference to legendary actress Madhuri Dixit’s style and dancing steps. Thus she got good scope to exhibit her talents through this film. She got associated with Ram Gopal Varma for the movie, which itself was titled Naach. She gave some unique food steps for its lead actress Antara Mali, though the movie was a big flop at box office.

Later she stayed in Bollywood, though she didn’t gain much recognition. Once the promos of the song Prem Ratan Dhan Payo got released in 2015, many dubsmashes of the song have gone viral and everybody tried to imitate its unique dance steps. She gave some easy steps and she also worked on Sonam’s body language, which gave amazing output onscreen.
