Serukalathur Sama Biography 
Serukalathur Sama was a Tamil film actor of early talkies. He is best known for playing Lord Krishna in many of the mythological Tamil films released in the 1930s and 1940s. He was also a playsingersinger of movies. He owned a production studio and named in Bharat Cinetone. Shylock was the firstfilm produced under his banner, by Sama himself. Apart from the role of Krishna, he also excelled in playing the role of saints, and sang for his character in the film too. He had the ability to sing in bass voice.
His real name is Swaminathan. He was born in Serukalathur village in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, and later he added the name of his native village to his name, and used it as screen name for films. His father Vaidyanadhaiyer owned a farm of his own. When he was 5 years old, his mother passed away, and his father brought his stepmother. So he left his ancestral home and set to Thanjavur, where he lived with his uncle. He studied in a local school, and also learnt Carnatic music along with it. After passing 10th exam, he married, and three children were born in this wedlock.
He went to Chennai in search of a job, and started off with a clerical post in a political office. Then he worked in Cosmopolitan Club for 10 years. While working there, he came into contact with a club member, Ananthanarayanan Narayanan, who established the recording studio, Srinivasa Cinetone. It was Narayan who introduced him to the world of music and cinema. He was good looking, and had singing talents too. It helped him to shot success in a short interval of time. Draupadi Vastrapaharanam in 1934 was his first film, in which he was casted as Krishna. Since then he became a permanent fixture in many mythological films in which Krishna forms a part of the script.
