Selvaraghavan Biography

Selvaraghavan is a south Indian film director and lyricist who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He is the son of director Kasthuri Raja and elder brother of actor Dhanush. He has also done one Telugu movie - Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule, with the name, Sri Raghava. He shot to fame with instant hit -Kadhal Kondein (2003) with actor Dhanush in the lead role. This movie happened to be his debut movie as a director too and it won him Filmfare Award for Best Director – Tamil. Kadhal Kondein was well received by critics as well as film lovers.

Earlier he has scripted Thulluvadho Ilamai, released in 2002. As a film maker, his next venture 7G Rainbow Colony was also a hit. Sonia Agarwal was the heroine in both these movies. They got married in 2006. But they got divorced in 2009. Now he is married to Gitanjali Raman who has worked as his assistant director. The couple has a daughter. Aayirathil Oruvan, Pudhupettai, Mayakkam Enna and Irandaam Ulagam are other directorial ventures in Tamil. Kadhal Kondein and Thulluvadho Ilamai, successfully launched Dhanush as an actor. Dhanush is the younger brother of Selvaraghavan and famous director, Kasthuri Raja is their father who directed the debut movie of Dhanush, Thulluvadho Ilamai.

Selvaraghavan holds a B Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. He entered film field as a story writer. He wrote the story of Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father, which launched Dhanush as an actor. His first venture as a director Kadhal Kondein was both a commercial and critical success. Selvaraghavan announced a movie with Vikram in January 2008 and worked for a year with its script. But the project didn’t take off and was shelved. He opted out of Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam too, due to his busy schedule. Now he has announced Sindubad with Vikram in the lead role.
