Glow of Hope, alternately titled "Woman with the Lamp", is a famous painting by S. L. Haldankar often misinterpreted as a work of Raja Ravi Varma. The woman in the picture holding the lamp is none other than his daughter Gita Haldankar who died most recently in 2018. Gita was 16 or 17 years old then, when Haldankar made this painting. She was lighting lamps on an auspicious occasion of Diwali, and trying to protect the lamp from wind when Haldankar got inspired by her appearance and portrayed on big canvas. Geeta became his model for the next three days and he made this painting in water colour. Glow of Hope is still regarded as one of the finest paintings made by an Indian artist, and still popular.
