Saritha Biography

Saritha is a south Indian film actress who has played lead roles during 1980’s. She has acted more than 140 films including all south Indian languages and now she appears in television serials as well. Her mainstream career spanned from 1978 to 1988 which includes many memorable roles. Actress Viji Chandrasekhar is her younger sister. She has married twice and both ended in divorces. She married Venkata Subbaih in 1974 which lasted only for 6 months and in 1988, she married popular Malayalam actor Mukesh. This marriage too, ended in a divorce in 2007. In October 2013, she came to limelight when she blamed Mukesh one day after his remarriage claiming that their divorce procedures have not completed yet.

Saritha debut silver screen after her first divorce. She got married at a younger age of 16 and it lasted only for 6 months. Her debut movie was Maro Charitha directed by K. Balachander and this Telugu movie was released in 1978. She played lead role opposite Kamal Haasan where she played a Telugu speaking girl. Same year Kannada movie Thappida Thala was also released. In 1980 she debut Tamil screen with the movie Sujatha. Later she appeared in Tamil movies like Agni Sakshi, Idi Katha Kaadu, Vandichakkaram, Netrikan, Puthukavithai, Thappu Thalangal, Kalyana Agathigal and Achamillai Achamillai.

Among her Malayalam movies, Kathodu kathoram opposite Mammootty is her most memorable role. She was once again paired with Mammootty for the movies like Kuttettan, Sandharbham, Sangham and Oru Kochu Karyam. Saritha received Filmfare best actress award 6 times during the decade of 1980’s thus establishing her name among the top slot actresses. The movies are Tamil movies – Vandichakkaram and Achamillai Achamillai and Kannada movies, Hosa Belaku, Mugila Mallige, Mouna Geethe and Sankranthi. She has received Nandi Special Jury Award for Arjun and Kokilamma. Apart she has won Nandi awards several times for dubbing also.
