Saravana Subbiah Biography

Saravana Subbiah is a film actor and director, associated with Tamil cinema. He is one among those directors turned actors of Tamil cinema. He made his directorial debut with Citizen in 2001 and later directed ABCD in 2005 and then fully associated with movies as a film actor. Though he received good response for Ajith starrer Citizen, later many of his projects got shelved and he decided to take supporting roles for movies. He played the role of a cop in Mani Ratnam's Raavanan (2010), which was his earliest breakthrough as a character artist. He got recognition through the movie - Thambi Vettothi Sundaram (2011), which won him critical acclaim.

Saravana Subbiah made his directorial debut with Citizen in 2001. In the movie, Ajith played the role of a social activist and the movie which earned positive reviews from critics is regarded as one of the best performances of Ajith till then. This movie also broke his romantic hero image, the roles for which he was popular till then. The director also managed to make his identity as a director, who made a cameo appearance of a reporter in the film. He started working on his next project, Itihaasa, which got shelved. Anthanan was another project which did not develop beyond its pre-production stage.

ABCD – released in 2005 received negative response from critics and when a couple of movies - Desam Kondan and Ennai Ezhanthen got canceled he started accepting supporting roles. Desam Kondan – was his dream project which he felt ten times powerful than his debut film - Citizen. He gained appreciation through Raavanan (2010) and Thambi Vettothi Sundaram (2011). In 2010 he anchored one reality show on Makkal TV, Kanavu Meipadavendum.
