Sarath Babu Biography

Sarath Babu is a south Indian film actor who has appeared in all south Indian language movies. In a career spanning to about 4 decades, he has portrayed both lead and supporting roles and has completed 200 movies, mostly belonging to Tamil and Telugu. He also appeared in a couple of films in Hindi and one in English. He is popular in Kollywood, for portraying urban, suave roles. He entered the film industry in 1973 and Nizhal Nijamagiradhu directed by K. Balachander was his big break to acting field. He is mostly known for portraying supporting roles.

Since childhood Sarath wanted to become an inspector. But his father, who was running a restaurant, wanted his son to follow his footsteps. During his college days, he developed short sight which kept him away from his dreams to become a police officer. In the final year, he started wearing glass which shattered his dreams. Later his good wishers prompted him to join film industry as he was good looking. When people started saying so to his parents, his mother agreed to it though his father disapproved it first. But Sarath was not at all willing to join family business. Once he happened to read an ad in the newspaper for fresh faces for a Telugu film. He responded to the ad and attended the audition. He was selected in ease.

Once he happened to see two great celebrities, K. Balachander and Singeetham Srinivasa Rao in a function. Rao introduced him to Balachander. When Balachander asked him if he is interested in doing films, he said yes. He asked Sarath to go to his office the next day and thus he got the big break, Nizhal Nijamagiradhu in 1977. Thus he got associated with film industry. He has married twice and both resulted in divorce. At first he was married to Telugu actress, Rama Prabha. His second marriage was with Snehalatha Dikshit, daughter of thespian MN Nambiar.
