Saranya Bhagyaraj Biography

Saranya Bhagyaraj is a noted actress associated with south Indian film industry. She is best known as the daughter of famous film celebrities – Bhagyaraj and Poornima Bhagyaraj, prominent actors of south Indian film industry in the 1980s. Her brother Shanthanu Bhagyaraj is a popular actor of Tamil cinema at present. Noted VJ Maanada Mayilada Keerthi, who is quite popular with reality shows, is her sister-in-law. Saranya has acted in two south Indian films up-to-date.  Both the movies were released in 2006.

She was launched to film scene through the Tamil Parijatham, by her father Bhagyaraj in 2006. She was paired with youth icon Prithviraj Sukumaran for her debut movie and was a major success at box office. The movie also starred Prakash Raj, Seetha, Sarath Babu and Roja Selvamani in pivot roles. The movie was released under the banner Aascar Film Pvt. Ltd. Same year she made her Malayalam debut through Mohanlal starrer Photographer. She was seen in a supporting role of Asha in the movie. Quite co-incidence both the siblings – Saranya and Shanthanu made their Malayalam debut in Mohanlal movies. Shantanu made his Malayalam debut through 2009 film, Angel John in a pivot role and the movie was a box office hit.

Saranya came to limelight when she attempted suicide in 2008. The reason for this extreme step was attributed to a failed relationship. She was mentally disturbed following a breakup with an NRI based in Australia. Sources added that she had been shuttling between Chennai and Australia quite often. Though she received many film offers after her debut flick, she signed only one Tamil movie - Dhik Dhik which is yet to be released.
