Santosh Anand Biography

Santosh Anand is a popular lyricist from Bollywood film industry who was active in the industry in 1970s and 1980s. He has penned lyrics for many popular movies of Manoj Kumar like Kranti, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Shor etc and is a winner of Filmfare award twice. "Main Na Bhoolunga", sung by Mukesh from Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974) earned him the first Filmfare award. "Mehngai Mar Gayi", "Aur Nahin Bas Aur Nahin", “Hay Hay Yeh Majboori” etc are other popular tracks of the movie. "Aur Nahin Bus Aur Nahin" also earned him a Filmfare nomination.

 

He also earned a Filmfare award for the song - "Mohabbat Hai Kya Cheez" from Prem Rog (1982). "Zindagi Ki Naa Toote" from Kranti sung by Lata and Mukesh earned him a Filmfare nomination in the year 1981. The philosophical song - "Ek Pyaar Ka Naghma Hain" of Shor sung by Lata Mangeshkar/Mukesh is also a popular song. "Ye Galiyan Ye Chaubara" of Prem Rog;"Tera Saath Hain Toh" and "Megha Re Megha Re" of Pyaasa Sawan too were the popular songs penned by Santosh, and sang by Lata Mangeshkar. Penned many songs for Manoj Kumar, most of them belong to singer Mukesh.

 

He belongs to Sikandrabad, Ghaziabad. Manoj Kumar starrer Purab Aur Paschim released in 1970 marked his film debut. Since then Manoj Kumar regularly gave him film opportunities. "Ek Pyaar Ka Naghma Hain" from Shor gave him a major break to the film world. He penned lyrics for 26 films – a total of 109 songs, most of them being evergreen hits. In October 2013 he became completely shattered when his son and daughter-in-law committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Their nine-year old daughter survived. She was thrown away at the last moment by her parents.
