Sanjay Mitra Biography

Sanjay Mitra is an Indian film actor, who is best known for portraying male protagonist in Bharathan’s classic Malayalam movie, Vaishali released in 1988. It was his debut movie, where he played the role of saint Rishyashrungan. Later he married his co-star SuparnaAnand, though they got separated later. Sanjay has also worked in a few movies belonging to different languages. Yet he didn’t manage to win hearts like his stellar performance in his debut flick. He made a comeback to Malayalam movies with Poonilamazha in 1997 though not successful. Later he concentrated on to television career. His names belong to the list of one-hit wonder of Indian actors.

Sanjay Mitra originally hails from Mumbai, though he worked most in south Indian cinema. Vaishali in 1988 gave him a magic entry to film world. The movie was directed by veteran film maker Bharathan and has achieved a cult classic status. The following year, he played the supporting role of Aaromalunni in Mammootty starrer periodic film – Oruvadakkanveeragatha. His role was noticed. Yet sanjay failed to leave a mark as the movie fully belonged to national award winning performance of Mammootty. He tried to make a comeback through Poonilamazha in 1997, music given by LaxmikantPyarelal duo. Smart City in 2006 was his third release in Malayalam. 

In 1993 he made his Bollywood debut through romantic movie - Shabnam, opposite Kanchan. Though the songs were noticed, the movie sank without any trace. In 2002, he made a strong comeback through Telugu movie, Hrudayanjali which won four Nandi awards. The movie was originally shot in 1992, but released after a decade. He has also acted in one Bengali movie - AnadoNiketan.PiyaKaGhar, Gharana, Shagun, Bhabi, Man Mein HaiVishwas and Malayalam serial - Shree GuruvayoorAppan are some of his television works.
