Sangili Murugan Biography

Sangili Murugan – Character artist of Tamil cinema, film producer and screenwriter. Since 1987 in the past three decades he has produced 10+ Tamil films, including 2018 blockbuster, Raatchasan. He owns the family production house - Murugan Cine Arts. He has scripted many of the films in the 1980s, and a few in the later, where he did the role of a film producer. As an actor, he was most recently seen in Namma Veettu Pillai, which told the story of the rivals of an extended family of siblings. As an actor his role in Thevar Makan is memorable. Now he is busy with his character roles on big screen.

 

Sangili Murugan hails from Madhurai. He was born in 1945 in the rural village of Pothumbu. His passion to films and acting brought him to Chennai. He marked his screen debut with 1979 movie, Ponnu Oorukku Pudusu playing the bit role of a policeman, and thus he completes 4 active decades in the industry. In between he has also worked as production controller, producer and writer in the film industry, along with his acting roles.

 

He produced Tamil movies such as Enga Ooru Pattukaran in 1987 (his first movie as a producer), Sakkarai Panthal, Enga Ooru Kavalkaran, Paandi Nattu Thangam, Periya Veetu Pannakkaran, Nadodi Pattukkaran, Periya Marudhu, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Pasamulla Pandiyare, Sura, Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai etc. He played character roles in Suvar Illadha Chithirangal, Naan Mahaan Alla (1984), Oru Kai Oosai, Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Sivappu Malli, Kadal Meengal, Auto Raja, Moondru Mugam, Saattai Illatha Pambaram, Chidambara Rahasiyam, Kavithai Paada Neramillai, Enga Ooru Kavalkaran, Nadodi Pattukkaran, Periya Veetu Pannakkaran, Ellam Avan Seyal, Jigarthanda, Puli etc. He is now playing father and granduncle kinds of roles.
