Sangeeta Bijlani Biography

Sangeeta Bijlani is a former model and actress of Bollywood. As an actress her most successful movie was Tridev. Sangeeta was the winner of Miss India contest 1980. She is now married to former cricket captain of India – Mohammed Azaruddin. Apart from Tridev, her successful movies include – Jurm and Hatyar. She has won Filmfare nomination for best actress in supporting role for the movie Jurm directed by Mahesh Bhatt in the year 1990. As an actress, her other movies include - Ijjat, Yugandhar, Hathimthai, Yodha, Khoon Ka Karz and Vishnu Deva.  She played the role of an angel (pari) in the fantasy film Hathim thai, where she was paired opposite Jeetendra. She is also known for the relationship with actor Salman Khan during early 90’s. They got engaged also, but they broke up. In 1996, she got married to Mohammed Azaruddin soon after the disaster end of India in World cup 1996. He divorced his first wife to marry Sangeeta.

Sangeeta was born on July 9, 1960 in Mumbai as the daughter of Motilal.  After winning the Miss India title, she became a hot model of India. A few of her popular brands include - Vicco Turmeric cream, Nirma soap and Nirma detergent. She has also worked with Salman in some costume ads during early 90’s. As a heroine Hatyar was her big break to Bollywood. The movie released in 1989 was directed by J.P.Dutta.  In 1989, she got another big project. She was paired opposite Jackie Shroff in Tridev. The song sung by Manhar Udhas and Alka Yagnik, Gali gali mein bhirtha hoon was pictured on these two actors and it became a chartbuster as well. Next year, she got an opportunity to work with Jeetendra in the fantasy film, Hathim thai.

But after that, her movies began to flop and she slowly retired from Bollywood.  She stopped working in movies in 1995 and married Azaruddin the following year. Among her television serials, Chandini,in which she played title role needs special mention.
