Sandy Gandhi Biography

Sandy Gandhi is an Indian-Australian comedian born in New Delhi. She is also known as a columnist from Australia. Ethnic humour is a popular form of comedy in Australia and Gandhi is known for portraying similar roles. "Enlighten Up" is her first book, published in the year 2008. She is a semi-finalist of "Australia's Got Talent" program aired on Australian Channel Seven Network in 2009. She has not given her age records in any interview and she comments that she would prefer to be known as "a woman of indeterminate age". She describes herself as "Australia's Most Easterly Indian", though have told that she has faced racism.

She was born in Delhi and brought up in Bangalore. Later she moved to Australia at the age of 12. She didn’t complete education as she felt that she did not want to be stuck in an institution. At the age of 21, she moved to London where she worked as a tour operator. She became a popular standup comedian for many comedy shows of Australian television. She regularly appears in comedy shows in Northern New South Wales, the region where a large population of Indian-Australian population exists. She is prolific in ethnic humour popular in Australia as well as Indian stereotypes and she combines both to give a unique form of comedy which appeals Indian dominated Australian societies. She also writes humorous columns titled, "Enlighten Up” for "The Pulse", the Sunday supplement to the Lismore Northern Star newspaper. She also published her first book with the same title.

She is also a caregiver who takes care of people suffering from dementia and schizophrenia. She has entered into an Australian national stand-up comedy competition and won her State Semifinal out of 19 comedians. She writes, produces and directs her own shows. She returned to India in 2008 and continues with her shows. Sandy’s real name is Sandy Aranha.
