Sandeep Singh Maan Biography

Sandeep Singh Maan is an Indian Para athlete from Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. He is a three-time silver medallist at the Para Asian Games, and has won medals at many other tournaments. He has suffered from a dysfunctional left arm since birth. Yet through his determination and hard work, he created a niche of his own in the field of Indian athletics. He is a national record holder in 200m and 400m since 2012, and is dreaming for his medal at Paralympics 2020. Maan received the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2016. He is the youngest athlete who won silver medal in Asian Para Games.

 

Sandeep was born in 1993 in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. 16th July is his birthday. He suffered from a dysfunctional left arm by birth. Yet he was inclined towards sports since early childhood. He used to participate in running races at sports events organized at school along with regular participants. He started winning medals for races, and slowly he started dreaming about a career in athletics. He was given early training by Dronacharya Awardee R. D. Singh since the age of 14. Since then he had a very difficult journey for around 15 years, and frequent injuries gave him a lot of troubles.

 

He won a silver medal for India at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China at the age of 17. It brought him to spotlight for the first time. He also created a record of being the youngest athlete who won silver medal in Asian Para Games. In Asian Para Games 2018 held in Jakarta, he won a bronze medal. He also won a medal at 2014 edition in Guangzhou, China. Maan participates in Men's 100m, 200m, 400m and Long Jump events in the T46 category.
