Sandeep Khosla Biography

Sandeep Khosla is an ace fashion designer associated with Indian fashion design industry at present. He combines traditional aesthetics with modern design, which is regarded as his signature style. Sandeep apart from designing costumes for live shows and award nights, he is also associated with Bollywood. He co-designed the beautiful traditional costumes of Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Devdas, aside Neeta Lulla, Abu Jani, and Reza Shariffi, and the movie won National Awards for Best Costumes for the year 2002. He is also associated with several projects in interior design, which include hotels, restaurants, resorts and homes. Khosla has currently started event design for Indian weddings.

Khosla is a native of Kapurthala, Punjab. His family is into leather and garment business. Soon after studies, he joined the family business. He also studied for a year at a leather institute in Chennai. But he discontinued his studies and moved to Delhi, where he opened a small boutique, Limelight. He then moved to Mumbai, where he started working as an assistant under Xerxes Bhathena, a costume designer for films. He got into contact with Abu Jani, who was also working as the assistant of Xerxes, and later the duo decided to work together.

They launched a boutique in Mumbai, Mata Hari in the year 1986, a successful beginning to their career. Very soon their work was featured in a leading fashion magazine, which opened them new doors to the fashion world. It was a time when fashion industry had just started to boon in India in the late 1980s. He was one among the 5 designers who joined Tarun Tahiliani for his multi-brand boutique Ensemble in 1987. It was designed by Rohit Khosla, who later gave a new direction to Indian fashion industry. Dimple Kapadia was his first celebrity client. Now Sandeep Khosla is one of the leading fashion designers of the country and he has successfully completed 25 years of journey in this field.
