Samata Das Biography
Samata Das is a noted film and television actress of Bengali language. She shot to fame after playing the role of Lati in Buddhadev Dasgupta's film Mondo Meyer Upakhyan. Lati was a 14-year old daughter of a prostitute, the character enacted by Rituparna Sengupta. Desh, Lal Ronger Duniya, Nagordola and Ek Mutho Chhobi are other noted film roles. Sonar Horin, Rani Kahinee, Srestha Upohar and Nader Nimai (2012) are her television serials. She got married at a young age of 18 to an assistant director of television.
Das got married to Shankar Chanda, assistant director of Bengali television in a hush hush way, soon after completing her higher secondary education. She tied the knot a few months before her exams. She later studied graduation in Bengali literature at the Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College affiliated to University of Calcutta. She was working in the ETV Bangla serial Sonar Harin then when marriage knocked the door. She took a small break from December 2006 to March 2007 soon after marriage. She was doing a couple of serials at that time; In Zee Bangla’s Rani Kahini, she played the visually-challenged Alo and The feisty Shampa in Sonar Harin. After a short break, she returned once again to acting.
Her first film was Raja Sen’s Desh where she portrayed the younger version of Jaya Bachchan’s character. Her second appearance was Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Mondo Meyer Upakhyan, where she played the daughter of a prostitute, the character done by Rituparna Sengupta. The story based on a story outline by Prafulla Ray was edited by Rabiranjan Maitra and music composed by Biswadeb Dasgupta.
