Salim Baig Biography

Salim Baig is an actor associated with south Indian film industry, who predominantly works in Tamil and Telugu movies. He mostly plays negative shaded character roles and antagonist roles on screen and is best known for his collaboration with ace filmmaker Gautham Menon. He played antagonist in Menon’s hit films - Gharshana (2004) and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006). Success of both these films earned more negative roles from Tamil and Telugu film industries from other directors as well. He is from Mumbai, though he succeeded in south Indian films.

His full name is Mohammed Salim Baig and he was born in Mumbai. He is also known by the name, Salim Panda. He was brought up in Mumbai where began his career in the entertainment industry as a model. Later he worked with theatre before moving to films. He marked his film debut through Telugu action film, Jai in 2004. It was actor Navdeep's debut film too, who played the lead role. Salim portrayed a character role in the bilingual film. Cinematographer Ravi Varman introduced him to director Gautham Menon, who gave him a breakthrough role through Gharshana released the same year. He played the role of a notorious gangster in the film, and earned critical acclaim. It is a remake of same director’s 2003 Tamil hit film Kaakha Kaakha.

Later Gautham Menon offered him the negative role in his next Tamil flick starring Kamal Hassan, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. In between he did a few other movies as well. His negative role in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu helped him to establish as one of the most sought villains of south Indian screen. Seeta Ramula Kalyanam, Don, Adivishnu, Thadaiyara Thaakka, Prematho Nuvvu Vastavani etc are a few more roles. Dhruva Natchathiram starring Vikram is his upcoming release.
