Salim Ahamed Biography

Salim Ahamed is a film producer and director associated with Malayalam cinema, best known for the National award winning critically acclaimed movie - Adaminte Makan Abu in 2011. The movie marked his directorial debut as well and the movie is best known for giving National award for best actor for a well-established comedian of Malayalam cinema – Salim Kumar. The movie was also nominated at 84th Academy Awards for best film in the foreign category, though it couldn’t make it to the final list of 5. The movie tells the story of a poor perfume seller who intensely dreams to go to Hajj. Karan Johar's Dharma Productions approached Ahamed to buy the rights of the movie after its outstanding performing at National awards and Karan Johar planned to do the movie with Shah Rukh Khan in the pivot role.

Salim Ahamed was born on 1 October 1970 in Mattannur of Kannur district. He completed BA in Commerce from Mattannur Pazhassiraja NSS College. He also took a diploma in Travel and Tourism and started his career as a travel consultant though his real dream was to join film stream. He joined the School of Drama in Thrissur as cinema was his real passion and later worked with Surya TV as a Creative Director and Script Writer. The comedy show, Rasika raja is his most successful creative work on television. He also worked as an assistant director for Malayalam cinema, before co-producing and directing his first film.

Adaminte Makan Abu received a loud noise of applause from film critics and accumulated numerous awards at different award functions. When a well-established comedian of the industry won National award for best actor, it was quite a surprise to all movie lovers. He shared the award with Dhanush. The film was screened at various international film festivals also. Ahamed received State award for best screenplay and movie. His second movie, Kunjananthante Kada was released in 2013 which starred Mammootty and Nyla Usha in lead roles.
