Sakhi Thomas Biography

Sakhi Thomas, also mentioned as Sakhi Elsa is a costume designer and fashion designer working predominantly in Malayalam films. In 2017 she got Kerala State Film Award for Best Costume Designer for the Malayalam film, Hey Jude. She has designed costumes for leading film actors including Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Manisha Koirala, Nayanthara, Trisha, Dileep, Mamta Mohandas etc. Violin, Oru Naal Varum, Electra, Salt Mango Tree, Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, KL 10 Patthu, Vellimoonga etc are among her noted works as a costume designer.

Sakhi completed her pre-degree education from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, and later completed Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. Fashion remained her passion and destination, and hence she pursued advanced studies in fashion from National Institute of Fashion Technology, specialized in Knitwear Design & Technology. She completed the 2-year course in 2004. It was one of her cousins who suggested her join NIFT to colour her ideas and dreams. Her collection titled ‘The Fragrance of a Dream’ (Mehak-E-Khwab) was spotlighted as the mid-way-opening collection of the 2004 Knitwear Design Show at NIFT soon after the completion of her course. She also had enough experience in the garment industry, having worked in Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

A lover of casual look, she chooses casual outfit while she works outdoor. Sakhi debuted as a costume designer in films with Syamaprasad's Off Season, one of the segments in the portmanteau film, Kerala Cafe released in 2009. She got more offers from film industry very soon, and Elektra, Oru Naal Varum, and Violin are among her early works. Most recently she won the maiden costume designer state award for Nivin Pauley-Trisha Krishnan starrer Hey Jude released in 2018. Designed costumes for almost all major artists of the industry, she has completed almost 1 decade in Malayalam cinema.
