Sajid Khan (hindi Actor) Biography

Sajid Khan is a Hindi Actor and singer who appeared as a child artist in Mother India. He is the adopted son of Mother India’s director Mehmood Khan. Khan is also known as a singer. He was born in the slums of Mumbai, and later worked in a few movies of Mehmood Khan such as Mother India (1957) and its sequel Son of India (1962). He has been a part of several international films and TV shows in the 1960s and later, and American TV series, Maya (1966) was extremely popular. He played the pivot role of an Indian boy who befriends Terry in the American movie as well as its TV adaption.

 

Sajid Khan was born in 1951 into a poor family in the slums of Mumbai. When he played younger version of Sunil Dutt in the iconic movie, Mother India in 1957, he was unknown to outer world. He received rupees 750 for the movie, which was a huge amount in the mid-1950s, soon after independence. Later he was adopted by Mehboob Khan and his wife Sardar Akhtar, who rechristened him as Sajid Khan. He later played the title role in Mother India’s sequel Son of India (1962) which happened to be Mehboob Khan’s last film. His lead role was well appreciated.

 

After Mehboob Khan’s death, he moved to US where he pursued a career in films and television field. As a teenager he appeared in 1966 film Maya and also acted in its TV adaption. The show became a huge success and Sajid became a "teen idol" for a short time. He also got featured in the cover of many leading magazines across the globe in the late 1960s. He also appeared in the TV series The Big Valley and was a celebrity judge at It's Happening, a musical show in the late 1960s.
