Sajan Kurien Biography

Sajan Kurien was an upcoming director and writer of Malayalam cinema, who died in the midst of a shoot on First December 2015, while shooting for the promo of his debut film – Bibleo. The film was almost complete and he returned to Ladakh just to shoot a video for the promo in the extreme cold weather. The temperature was below -24 degrees. He was to leave Ladakh on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately he died on Tuesday late night, following a cardiac arrest aged 33. ‘Bibleo’ is the cinematic version of his own novel with the same title. The trailer was released most recently.

Sajan Kurein aka Sajan Samaya was a resident of Thrissur. Sajan is known for his experiments with commercial short films and some of his works were showcased at various film festivals outside India. Among his works, ‘Dancing Death’ with cine actors Jagdeesh and Pashupathi and ‘The last vision’ caught attention of public at various film festivals including Pune Film Festival last year. ‘Go Dog’ is another noted shot film.

He completed schooling from Thop St Thomas School. After that he got completely drawn to the magical world of cinema. Since childhood he was interested in reading, which helped him a lot later to write a novel and make it a film. This youngster, who has always attempted new, initiated his projects and dreams with the help of his friends and has never worked with any directors or people belonging to cine world. Yet he learnt all the technics of film making including screenplay, cinematography and direction.

He didn’t take enough precautions while shooting in the cold of Ladakh. After the shooting he returned to his room and locked inside. When he didn’t respond to calls, the hotel room was opened to find that he was sweating. Though he was rushed to the nearby hospital, Sajan succumbed to death. He dreamt to make a film on ‘Maamangam’ an old traditional festival that existed in Kerala. He already started working on it, researched on books and dreamt about a Hollywood style set which became his unfulfilled dream.
