Saeed Akhtar Mirza Biography 
Saeed Akhtar Mirza is a successful director of Bollywood and television serials. He is a well known screen writer as well. He is a representative of Indian parallel cinema and has directed numerous critically acclaimed and National award winning movies like - Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984), Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai (1980), Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro (1989) and Naseem (1995). Naseem won two National awards for the year 1995. His popular Doordarshan serials are Nukkad (1986) and Intezaar (1988) both for Doordarshan. He has won Filmfare Best Story Award for Yash Chopra’s Waqt (1965), a trendsetter movie with multistar cast for the first time in Indian big screen. Saeed’s father was a successful screenwriter of yesterdays - Akhtar Mirza with credits for the scripts, Naya daur and Waqt. Screenwriter and film maker Aziz Mirza is his brother who gave numerous opportunities to Shah Rukh Khan in movies and serial, Circus.
Saeed Akhtar Mirza was born in 1943, in Mumbai. He worked in an advertising company before joining FTII Pune. He graduated in the year 1976 and became active in the industry thereafter. He started his career as a documentary film maker in 1976. His debut movie as a director was Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan (1978) which won Filmfare best movie Critics award that year. In 1980, he produced Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai. His next venture Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984) is regarded as a cult classic of Hindi cinema where he worked with leading artists of parallel cinema, before and behind camera.
As a director, Saeed’s other movies are - Slum Eviction, Ghashiram Kotwal, An actor prepares and Murder (1976), Urban Housing (1977), Piparsod (1982), Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro (1989) and The Rickshaw Pullers of Jabalpur (1984). He has also directed television serials like Nukkad (1986) and Intezaar (1988). Saeed has won Filmfare critics awards for best movie for the movies -Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai. Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984) won National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare.
