Sadhu Kokila Biography

Sadhu Kokila is a popular comedian and character artist associated by Kannada cinema. He has also produced and directed a few movies including Shhh, Om, Super ranga, Rakta Kanneeru and Devru. He is also a popular music director and a winner of Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director twice – Rakshasa in 2005 and Inthi Ninna Preethiya in 2008. He has also done background score for Myna released in 2013. Sahaya Sheelan is his real name and he excels in comic scenes through his body language, mannerisms and comedy timing. He won SIIMA Award for Best Comedian for the year 2012 for the movie - Yaare Koogadali and has also been nominated for the year 2013 for the movie ‘Googly’ in which he played the memorable role of Mustafa.

He was born into a Christian family in Bangalore. His real name is Sahaya Sheelan. He was born into a family of musicians and his parents are Natesh and Mangala. His father worked in police department and has been associated with a band as a violinist. His mother and sister are playback singers while his brother Layendra has appeared in a few movies. Sadhu Kokila started his career as a musician and is one of country’s best and fastest keyboard players. Sahaya Sheelan was rechristened Sadhu Kokila by the Telugu actor Upendra. Sadhu Kokila is married to Saleena since 1993 and the couple has two children.

Sadhu Kokila is considered to be one of the versatile and talented entertainers in the Kannada Film Industry. As a music director, some of his noted works include - H20, Rakta Kanneeru and Inthi Ninna Preethiya. As a comic actor, his screen chemistry with Doddanna has earned him a lot of appreciation. Both have done a lot of situation comedy scenes. His mannerisms often resembles Bollywood comedian Johnny Lever a lot.
