Sadashiv Amrapurkar Biography

Sadashiv Amrapurkar is a well known actor of Bollywood and Marathi cinema, versatile in doing villain and comic roles. He won Filmfare awards for best villain in the year 1991, when this category was included in the sections. The movie was Sadak, starring Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. He is quite popular with the villain role in the smash hit, Ishq where he included some comic flavours as well. He received a Filmfare nomination for best performance in negative role as well. He received best supporting actor at Filmfare for Ardh Satya in the year 1984. Comic flavours of suspense thriller Gupt also needs a special note. He also appeared in Bharat ek khoj, television series of Dooradarshan during 1990’s.

 

He became a part of Indian film industry since 1980’s. He is most noted for negative performances than supporting ones. His most memorable roles include – Arth satya, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Coolie no.1, Yarana, Chote sarkar, Kachche Dhaage, Aunty No.1, Jaanam Samjha Karo, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Ajay, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Dil ne phir yaad kiya, Kohra, Hasti, Aaj ka toofan, Khullam khulla pyra kareinge, Bombay Talkies, Purana mandir, Asmaan Se Ooncha, Majaal, Eswar, Elaan-E-Jung, Tadipar, Kafila, Dushman, Agee kaal, Doot ka karz, Kohraaam, Farishtey, Jeena Marna Tere Sang, Return of Jewel Thief, Coolie no.1, Teri Meherbaniyan, Hum To Mohabbat Karega, Bulandi, Hum saat saat hain, Ishq, Sadak and Chori chori. 

 

Sadashiv was a successful theatre artist before joining film industry. He was noticed by director Govind Nihalani while he was performing a Marathi stage play Hands-Up! Nihalani was then in search of a new face to do villain role in his upcoming movie, Ardh satya. He was offered the role and Sadashiv won Filmfare best supporting actor award as well, for his debut movie. Purana Mandir, Nasoor, Teri meharbaaniyan, Muddat, Veeru Dada, Jawani, and Farishtay were his early hits. He has stayed in Bollywood for more than 30 years and owns many memorable roles as well.
