Sachin Waze Biography

Sachin Waze is a former police officer of the Maharashtra Police Force, best known as ‘Encounter Specialist’. As a member of Mumbai Encounter Squad, he was involved with the deaths of about 63 alleged criminals during his service, which earned him this name. These criminals include many gangsters also, who closely worked with underworld dons like Chotta Rajan and Dawood Ibrahim. Munna Nepali is one such notorious gangster who Sachin killed in encounter. Joined police force in 1990, he worked with Mumbai police for 17 years. Vaze is the creator of the first social networking portal in Marathi, the regional version of Facebook. He has also authored a few books.

 

Sachin Hindurao Vaze was born 22 February 1972 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. His father was a politician. After studies, Sachin joined the State Police Service in 1990 as a sub inspector, where he was posted in Naxal affected area of Gadchiroli. In 1992, he joined Thane City Police. Since then his journey to fame and popularity happened in a small interval of time, and he got attached to several high profile cases. He rose to higher ranks and became the head of the Special Squad of Thane Crime Branch. This squad was formed around 1997.

 

During his 17 years’ service with the squad, he encountered 63 alleged criminals including many gangsters. Anti-Extortion Cell recorded its first ever encounter soon after he along with his mentor Pradeep Sharma, was transferred to it. Vaze also dealt with counterfeit currency cases, helping many Bollywood celebrities. In 2017, he was alleged of helping and supporting extortion rackets, though he denied the case. Rege - a 2014 Marathi film directed by Abhijit Panse was inspired from the professional life of Vaze.
