S. T. Joshi Biography

Sunand Tryambak Joshi, shortly called S. T. Joshi is an American literary critic and author of fiction of Indian origin. Regarded as an author of weird and fantastic fiction, many of his fictional works including novels are very popular. I Am Providence: The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft - biography of Lovecraft is best among his literal works. He is a leading figure in the study of H. P. Lovecraft, an American writer best known for horror fiction. He has conducted research on many American authors like John Dickson Carr, Lord Dunsany, Algernon Blackwood and M. R. James, and published books on them, and edited and compiled their works too. Women’s studies, horror, fantasy, atheism, contemporary politics etc are among his favourite subjects.

Sunand Tryambak Joshi was born in Pune on June 22, 1958. His higher education was done at US, where he is settled now. He was introduced to the writer H. P. Lovecraft at the age of 13, when he got a book from a library. He read L. Sprague de Camp's biography of Lovecraft, and started learning more about this author, who earned a celebrity status posthumously. He also wrote some Lovecraftian fiction stories. He later completed his graduation and post-graduation degrees in classics at Brown University, because of his love towards Lovecraft books and manuscripts in the John Hay Library.

He continued with his studies and also earned Paul Elmer More fellowship in classical philosophy. He spotted 1,500 textual errors in his favourite Lovecraft story, At the Mountains of Madness, and devoted years of research consulting manuscripts and early publications of this renowned other. As a literary critic he contributed a lot to the research works of H. P. Lovecraft.
