S. Ramakrishnan (writer) Biography

S. Ramakrishnan is a prolific writer of Tamil language known as a dialogue writer of Tamil cinema as well. ‘Thunai Ezhuthu’ the popular column in the magazine Ananda Vikatan made him a popular writer. His works include plays, novels, essays and short stories and many of his works have been translated to other languages. He translated the popular children novel, Alice in Wonderland to Tamil titled, Alicin arpudha ulagam. Yaamam, Dhuyil, Nimitham, Nedunkuruthi, Ezhuthalai Nagaram, Ubha Paandavam, Urupasi and Kirukiruvaanam are other popular novels. ‘Upa Paandavam’ is his most popular novel which is done based on his research works on epic Mahabharata.

 

He has written film dialogues for movies like Sandaikozhi, 7am Arivu, Samar, Baba and Yuvan Yuvathi. In 2011, he received the Iyal Award from The Tamil Literary Garden, Canada for his contributions to the Tamil Literature. He is the first Tamil writer to receive Tagore Literature Award. Tamil sangam Award and Wisdom award are the other major honours received by him. He has completed 25 years of his literal career and known for the portrayal of modern style literal writing in Tamil short stories. He is also known as an orator.

 

This writer is known for his travels and often referred to as ‘Desanthari’, which means ‘A Pilgrim’. Desanthari is one of the titles of his published works. He was born in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu in the year 1966. As a storyteller, he has organized numerous story-telling camps for school children and screenwriting camps for students across the state. He writes regularly for Tamil weekly ‘Ananda Vikatan’ and his columns are very popular. Later his articles were compiled and titled, Thunai Ezhuthu which was a bestseller.
